Moordrecht

Today started with a nice croissant at Cafe du Midi with Jen. We walked there from the Delft Camping bus stop. After that, we walked back to the bus stop where I had parked the trike and I took off Eastish. This time, I had asked my phone to plot out a knooppunt route that would get me to Moordrecht. Of course that's ridiculously far; almost to Gouda. So I figured I'd turn around once I was an hour in or so.

Also, thinking ahead, I brought my water bottle. Empty, of course, because there are places to fill up all over.

So off I rode, past horses

and windmills

and these three things in a 10 minute window:

And of course some pretty water things

Eventually I ended up at Moordrecht. Whoops, guess I forgot about that "hour or so."

At this point, I popped into a grocery store and grabbed a drink and some cheese. The drink wasn't much, though, so I also looked on a map for the nearest public water tap. They have these all over the country, and I figured it was time to fill up my water bottle. Destination found, I started heading along a river.

river?

Or maybe it was a canal? It's some water way up high, next to some much lower land. Probably a canal. Anyway, that reedy area on the right side of the picture is water.

Before too long, I got to the train station for Niewerkerk aan den Ijssel.

This has one of those water taps. However, it wasn't working. There was a guy sitting nearby when I went to get water, and he told me after I'd pushed the button that it didn't work. Pity. No problem, though, because there's another one very nearby.

no water

This time, I read the sign. It says the water is off until April. Whoopsie.

Well, back on the road I guess.

The GPS says my total distance for today was around 62.5 km. Once again, the max speed is broken (reported 60.3 km/h on the way back) but average was somewhere between 18 and 21 km/h. I should set the trip odometer when I start these. It would give me something to sanity check against.

In the interest of finding the best maps, I'm trying two more plotters.

Which do you think is better?
