Towed by Cruisers

13-2, ESE; low 70s

Met Isaac (IT) at 1:30. He drove in and got there early. Hitched a ride to Cyrus, which actually didn't have a spinnaker this time. Isaac had some fancy camera action, and took tons of selfie-style videos and pictures. Forecast was for light, but it was actually pretty solid. Saw a giant tanker heading out to sea while in the channel; it was at least 20 stories tall. We went upwind to Castle Island, at which point we decided to try going around Gallops. Took Nubble Channel down, around Gallops. At the entrance to the channel, we hit a lot of chop from various boats going by and Isaac lost his lunch. First experience with actual sea sickness, but he was a trooper. Didn't complain, just drank some water and moved along. There was also a boat coming in from the bay on an asymmetric, and flying fast. It probably covered a mile in the 5 minutes we were watching it. Came back up through The Narrows and as we started going down wind the wind got a bit lighter. I had decided to try to take the small boat channel in, since it was downwind and shorter, so we cut across President Roads and Isaac played with the jib. Somewhere in the area between "D" and "E", the wind got very light and we were mostly just sitting in the boat. The tide was getting close to low, so not much current and we weren't moving much. Around 5:30 a big sailboat motoring in asked us if we were ok or wanted a tow, and we passed said we were fine. Whoops. Sitting in the channel barely moving for an hour, as ferries went by made us realize our error. We had gone maybe a quarter of a mile when a cruiser on its way in to BSC offered a tow. This time we accepted. They pulled us from between "3" and "5" in the small boat channel North of the Lower Middle up to a mooring. Isaac steered. Back on the dock 7:33.
