Sunny summer day, blah blah bike ride.

I decided to go beachward today, and plotted out a roughly 50 km route to that end. For some reason, though, I decided to go through The Hague. They're having some sort of event there next week, and a bunch of stuff is blocked off.

Of course I should have expected this because it's causing all sorts of disruptions for people who live there, but I guess I didn't expect them to block things off this early.

There were barriers to keep large vehicles from coming through the bike paths...

These were a minor nuisance, since I had to get off to negotiate them. However, right after that was this:

sign for 37

I was trying to get to point 37. See the sign there? Yeah.

So I tried going around, but ended up at the same place.

detour

The second time I passed this guy, I realized I could actually go that way.

Anyway, I did that and eventually got to the beach.

I was not the only one with this idea.

traffic

Once out of Scheveningen, I had a nice ride along the dunes.

Up to the Zandmotor (English), where I started heading home.

I came back through a similar route to a previous trip to the beach, through a nice forest with cows in it.

Phone says:

Max speed: 46.2 km/h
Average speed: 20.5 km/h
Total distance: 52.5 km

Bike computer:

Max speed: 38.7 km/h
Average speed: 20.1 km/h
Total distance: 51.07 km

Amusingly, my average speed was 25 km/h before I got to The Hague. City riding really slows things down a lot.
